Ingredients
Makes 2 servings
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk like almond or oat)
- 2 black tea bags (or 2 tsp loose-leaf black tea)
- 1 cinnamon stick (plus extra for garnish if desired)
- 3–4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 small piece of fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 1–2 tsp sugar, honey, or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Base
- Brew the Tea
- Remove from heat and allow tobrew for 3–4 minutes or until the tea is dark and aromatic.
- Add Milk and Sweetener
- Place back onto the hob.
- Stir in the milk and your choice of sweetener. Bring the mixture back to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent the milk from scorching.
- DO not allow to boil.
- Strain and Serve
- Remove the saucepan from heat. Strain the chai into cups or a teapot to remove the spices and tea leaves.
